The ActGreen project successfully held its international event on green mobility in Kallithea, Greece,on April 21rd, 2026 at the Kallithea Municipal Theatre. This meeting brought together a diverse group of leading experts, academics, institutional representatives, and professionals to exchange knowledge on innovative approaches to sustainable urban development, green infrastructure, and climate change resilience.
The event commenced with welcoming remarks from Ioannis Emirzas, Deputy Mayor, who outlined the municipality's strategic vision for a sustainable future, and Marouso Stella, Deputy Head of the Planning and Programming Department, who detailed the initiative's strategic framework. Vasiliki Tzoumaka, Project Manager for the Municipality of Kallithea, led the overall coordination, ensuring a dynamic dialogue throughout the day.
The program featured high-level presentations from several distinguished speakers. Alexios Atsaros, Deputy Director of Environment, presented practical green development policies currently implemented in Kallithea. Konstantinos Kartalis, Professor of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (and IPCC AR7 Lead Author) provided an in-depth analysis of challenges in strengthening urban climate resilience. Eleni Mougiakou of Commonspace emphasized the necessity of participatory approaches in urban planning to create inclusive environments. Additionally, representatives from GET – Geospatial Enabling Technologies demonstrated advanced geospatial tools designed to support data-driven environmental monitoring and sustainable mobility planning.
Following the presentations a hands-on participatory workshop focused on XR technologies was led by Chrysa Varna, Architect and Head of Design Technology at TPA, showcasing innovative tools that enhance collaborative urban design.
After participants engaged in an informal walk along the Ilisos River, where they were welcomed for lunch by Kostas Askounis,Mayor of Kallithea.
The event concluded with field visits to highlight best practices in environmental management, including a trip to the Lake Vouliagmeni Natura 2000 protected area and the Temple of Poseidon at Sounio. The day ended with an official dinner featuring performances by the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra and professors from the “Odysseas Dimitriadis” Municipal Conservatory, providing a final opportunity for stakeholders to network and strengthen cross-sector collaborations.
